It’s one thing to spread awareness about climate change impacts, provide the facts, and share opinions on solutions. What’s even more critical, however, is that our messaging is powerful enough to connect with audiences in a way that inspires movement-wide action. Like any other campaign aiming to generate change, being strategic and intentional with the way we communicate is how we can succeed.
We need effective communicators who can convey environmental justice priorities in impactful ways that move people to shift their understanding of environmental and climate solutions toward a racial, economic, and environmental justice framework.
Just Solutions is introducing a new educational, webinar-based series called Climate Comms Power. This series will focus on skill-training for communications professionals so that collectively we lead stronger campaigns that are consistent in narrative messaging. These sessions will train communications professionals and staff at environmental and climate justice organizations to deliver powerful messaging through strategy and resource-building.
Data shows that nonprofits commonly don’t have the resources to hire a full communications staff and only half report that their current digital communications strategy is effective. Another understood reality is that environmental groups dominate the climate change narrative with messaging that often doesn’t center BIPOC-frontline communities and at worst, uplifts false solutions.
Climate Comms Power will empower current EJ communications staff to step out of isolation and provide the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded professionals, all striving towards the shared goal: implementing effective messaging campaigns to center the experiences of the communities who are most impacted by and vulnerable to the climate crisis.
Hear from professionals in the field on topics like:
- Navigating climate mis- & disinformation
- How to leverage social media to communicate climate solutions efficiently
- Taking an intersectional approach in communications
Participants will also be granted access to an online community space for EJ professionals to network, promote their work, and build the EJ movement’s capacity for powerful narrative strategy.
